Upon receiving this award founder and CEO of Park West Gallery, Albert Scaglione said, “It is an honor to be recognized for the second year in a row by the U.S. Commerce Association. This is a reflection of the hard work many dedicated individuals put in each day here at Park West. Art Exhibits on View

"Three Musicians"

by Pablo Picasso
Picasso and the Avant-Garde in Paris
PHILADELPHIA — A new exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art focuses on Modern Masters including Picasso, Braque and Chagall–commonly known as the School of Paris. Picasso and the Avant-Garde in Paris features 214 paintings, sculptures, and works on paper. The exhibition follows the trajectory of Picasso’s career and also explores the important role that Paris played in the history of modern art during the first half of the 20th century, when artists from around the world followed Picasso’s example and moved to the French capital. On view until April 25, 2010 | Exhibit Details >>

"Bathers by a River"
(detail),
by Henri Matisse.
Matisse: Radical Invention, 1913-1917
CHICAGO — The Art Institute of Chicago is currently showcasing Matisse: Radical Invention, 1913-1917, featuring nearly 120 of Henri Matisse’s paintings, sculptures, etchings and drawings. This exhibit takes a close look at one short, enigmatic phase in the artist’s career, during which Matisse’s trademark bright colors and deceptively simple approach to form were replaced with blacks and grays and an uncharacteristic density. Some critics attribute the change to war pressures and the challenge of a younger generation of painters, others believe Matisse decided to reinvent himself artistically. On view until June 20, 2010 | Exhibit Details >>

"Rembrandt Laughing"
(detail),
by Rembrandt
van Rijn.
Rediscovered Rembrandt Painting at Kimbell Art Museum
FORT WORTH — Rembrandt van Rijn’s self-portrait, Rembrandt Laughing, was mistakenly attributed to his older contemporary Frans Hals a century and a half after Rembrandt’s death. However, in 2007 the painting made headlines when the English family who owned it for the past 100 years put it up for auction and art dealers in attendance recognized its quality and importance. Art historians now know that Rembrandt Laughing is one of the first and most joyful chapters of the artist’s autobiography in paint, and he painted the work in his home city of Leiden when he was 21 or 22 years old. The painting is currently on view at the Kimbell Art Museum.
On view through July 2010 | Exhibit Details >>

Artists in the News

Portrait of Taylor Swift by Peter Max

Peter Max Celebrity Portraits
Pop artist Peter Max recently painted a portrait of country music star Taylor Swift, who personally chose the photo for Max to paint—the cover of her award-winning album, Fearless. Swift has been a long-time fan of Max’s artwork, saying, “I think I was 8 or 9 the first time I saw one of his paintings. His art is like another world to me, and I can’t even explain how much it means to me that he did my portrait.” Read More >>

Peter Max has also created a life-size painting of Shaquille O’Neal for Size DOES Matter, a show curated by the basketball legend. The exhibit showcases works from international artists and explores the myriad ways that scale affects the perception of contemporary art. The artist sat down for an interview with Fox’s local New York news, during which he gave the public a glimpse of his painting and discussed Shaq’s visit to his studio. Watch the Video >>
